Sustainable Development at University
Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) continues to be ranked in the UI GreenMetric 2020 ranking of universities with sustainable development at the 83rd position among 922 participating universities.
UI GreenMetric is an organization that ranks universities based on the criteria of sustainable development in order to evaluate their efforts in creating a green and environmentally-friendly university environment.
The goal of this organization is to hold the interest of the community in coping with climate change, conserving energy and water resources, increasing waste recycling and using a clean transport system starting from educational institutions. Data is surveyed by participating universities.
In 2016, TDTU was acknowledged in this regard at 156th place. In the following years, the university continuously maintained itself in the top 200. According to the latest result in 2020, it is reached 83rd among a total of 922 cooperating universities worldwide.
As a progressing university with a history of more than 23 years of establishment, besides its efforts in education, science and technology and internationalization, TDTU's plans are closely connected to the requirements on sustainable development.
At the main campus in Ho Chi Minh City, green areas account for more than 75% of the area of the grounds. Furthermore, in Nha Trang and Bao Loc, the proportion is even higher. TDTU continues to strive to save energy, water, paper, and other resources. The water treatment system at the university was completed in order to maximize its reuse capacity. The technology of treating rainwater into drinking water in TDTU is one of the typical projects on water saving in Vietnam. On top of buildings, solar power systems have been installed to meet most of the university’s electricity needs.
Creating a green university environment is not only a concrete action to join the international community in protecting the environment and combating climate change. The green spaces at TDTU also help inspire students and lecturers to learn and do research as every day they can enjoy the green and fresh space known as "green lung" right in the heart of the city.
